Supporting a 2026 Ballot Measure for San Diego Schools

  • Quality Schools For All Children

We support current and future students attending schools in the San Diego Unified School District. Thanks to past voter support of school bond measures, the District has undertaken a comprehensive program to repair, upgrade and expand aging school buildings in order to give every student a quality learning environment.

In November 2026, voters living in the San Diego Unified School District will be asked to support a bond measure to continue the District’s highly successful program to revitalize and upgrade nearly 150 schools in California’s second largest school district serving more than 100,000 students.

  • Every Child Deserves A Safe and Modern School

A 2026 Bond Measure Will Ensure That All Aging, Outdated Schools

Recieve the Repairs and Upgrades Our Children Deserve

San Diego's schools still need $100s of million dollars in major repairs, renovations, and modernization of school facilities to ensure safe, functional, and efficient learning environments. This includes repairing or replacing outdated roofs, doors, windows, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and structural components, as well as removing mold, asbestos and replacing lead pipes in the drinking water.

Repair and Upgrades for Student Health and Safety

A new bond will enable San Diego schools to make critical school safety and security improvements by establishing controlled-entry points and improving fencing, cameras, and lighting as well as other intrusion and vandalism safeguards. It includes upgraded fire alarm/sprinkler and emergency communication systems, plus reconfigured exits for safer student evacuation.

And many schools still need improvements for student health include filtered drinking water, replacing lead piping, and removing potentially dangerous sources of mold or asbestos. The initiative also focuses on seismic upgrades, health office remodels, expanded food service areas, playground shade shelters, and safer traffic flow.

    Renovated Classrooms for Transitional Kindergarten

State mandated transitional kindergarten programs have essentially added a new "grade" inot existing schools and have necessitated constructing and furnishing new specialized facilities, renovating existing classrooms and restrooms, and providing age-appropriate playground spaces and equipment.

    Workforce Housing

A 2026 bond measure would provide resources for constructing teacher and workforce housing to support the educators and staff who serve students in the District.

With the rising cost of living, many school employees cannot live in the communities where they work. Providing affordable, district-supported housing will help retain talented teachers, reduce turnover, and create a more stable, consistent learning environment for students.

This commitment to affordable housing would allow educators to live closer to their schools by using underutilized school sites.

  • It all begins with a quality school.

The San Diego Unified Board and the District leadership are in the process of updating their Facilities Master Plan and identifying funding needs to achieve the vision of a quality school for every child. San Diegans for Quality Schools will support the November 2026 bond measure that will ask voters to once again support that vision for San Diego's children.

To prepare for a campaign to educate the voters about the school facility needs of the District, we need support.
